The Durham College Oshawa GO Station expansion will add tracks and improve service along the Lakeshore East line.

People from Kingston who travel to Toronto for a Jays game, concert, or just a weekend getaway might be used to driving to a GO station in Durham Region to hop on a train.

Now, with significant upgrades happening at the Durham College Oshawa GO Station, those trips could get easier.

The Ontario government has announced that construction is now in progress to add two new tracks and expand the station, which will support future two-way, all-day GO train service on the Lakeshore East line.

This project features a new north platform complete with a canopy and snow-melt system, an extended south platform, pedestrian bridges, and a brand-new bus loop.

The enhancements are also designed to accommodate future electrification as well as the planned Bowmanville GO Extension.

This extension will stretch nearly 19 kilometers along the Lakeshore East line and is expected to facilitate around 17,000 daily trips by 2041.

Ontario reports that it has invested over $15.3 billion into various GO Expansion projects across the province.
