Provincial police are looking for witnesses and dashcam footage as they investigate the fatal stabbing of an Orillia man, which resulted in a second-degree murder charge against a resident of Brampton.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is urging anyone who was in or around Scout Valley Trail on the evening of June 2 to come forward with any information that might help investigators.

Authorities report that 47-year-old Justin Van Allen from Orillia died after being stabbed while walking his dogs along the trail at approximately 7 p. m.

Officers responded to the area after receiving reports about a man in distress suffering from serious injuries. Van Allen was later declared dead.

The day following the incident, police announced they had arrested 33-year-old Devon Alamina from Brampton, who now faces a second-degree murder charge.

Even with the arrest made, investigators say the case is still ongoing and are appealing for anyone with information or dashcam footage who might have been near the scene during the time of the attack.

Van Allen is remembered as a loving husband and father to five children.

This latest appeal comes as more details about the accused have emerged. Court documents reveal that Alamina was convicted in February and sentenced to 60 days in custody for assault with a weapon and breaching a probation order related to an incident that occurred in Caledon back in June 2025.

The Orillia OPP Crime Unit continues its investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, receiving support from both the Office of the Chief Coroner and OPP Forensic Identification Services.

Police haven’t revealed any motive yet nor clarified whether Van Allen and Alamina were acquainted prior to this incident.

Anyone who has information or dashcam footage is encouraged to contact the Orillia OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and reference incident number E260761232. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers.

The charge against Alamina has not been proven in court.
