Ontario’s police watchdog reports that a man, age 33, lost his life in a three-vehicle accident in Windsor on Sunday after police tried to stop a pickup truck.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) noted that a Windsor police officer spotted “a pickup truck of interest” going northbound on St. Luke Road at about 4 p. m. and attempted to pull it over.
“The pickup truck did not stop and continued travelling northbound on St. Luke Road at a high rate of speed,” according to the SIU.
In a statement released on Monday, the agency mentioned that the pickup then collided with two other vehicles – one being a Dodge Journey. The driver of that SUV unfortunately died from their injuries.
This crash took place near St. Luke Road and Seminole Street.
The SIU is asking anyone who may have information related to the investigation, including any videos or photos, to reach out to them.
The civilian law enforcement agency operates independently from the police and conducts criminal investigations into incidents involving police that have led to serious injuries, deaths, firearm discharges at individuals, or claims of sexual assault.
