A man has lost his life, and a woman is in critical condition after an SUV crashed into a transport truck in Brampton on Tuesday, according to police.
The accident occurred in the southbound lanes of Airport Road, just north of Williams Parkway, as reported by Peel Regional Police. Officers responded to the scene around 3:15 p. m.
Firefighters and paramedics worked to free both the man and woman from the SUV. They were reportedly the only people inside the vehicle, police stated.
The driver, a man, was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The woman was airlifted to a trauma center and remains in life-threatening condition.
“We would like to extend our deepest heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and all those that are impacted by this tragic incident,” acting Sgt. Mandeep Khatra told reporters near the scene later.
Investigators from Peel police’s major collision bureau are looking into what happened during the crash.
Khatra indicated that speed might have played a role based on witness accounts.
The transport truck stayed at the scene and its driver is cooperating with authorities, as noted by police in an email Tuesday night.
Anyone who may have dashboard camera footage of the accident or surveillance video from the area is encouraged to reach out to law enforcement.
