Barrie takes second consecutive overtime win

With a chance to secure the Bobby Orr Trophy as OHL Eastern Conference champions, the Bulldogs fell short, losing 4-3 to the Colts in Barrie at Sadlon Arena on Saturday.
This victory marked Barrie’s second straight win in overtime with a score of 4-3, tying up the series at 3-3 and setting up a deciding Game 7 on Monday at TD Civic Centre at 7 p. m.
“Honestly, I’m very happy with the effort, with the chances that we generated,” Bulldogs head coach Jay Mc Kee said. “I thought we played a great game.
“I want them to hold their heads high. We would take that effort every night. We had our opportunities and I thought our effort was incredible for the majority of the game.
“Our guys should be proud of that effort.”
The opening period saw Brantford come out strong, outshooting Barrie by an impressive margin of 7-1. By the end of that period, they led in shots on goal at 19-9 and were ahead by one goal thanks to Cooper Dennis’s strike.
The second period brought plenty of action and some reviews as well.

A little under two minutes into the second frame, Barrie equalized with a goal from Jaiden Newton. However, there was some controversy as Brantford goalie Ryerson Leenders lost his helmet just before it went in.
“Well, usually when a goalie’s helmet comes off, the play is blown dead for safety reasons,” Mc Kee said. “It wasn’t blown there so that’s what the discussion was but they felt it was a good goal.”
A rare Ryder Boulton goal put Brantford back ahead at 2-1 followed by another from Jake O’Brien making it 3-1. Carter Lowe scored for Barrie cutting down Brantford’s lead to just one goal at 3-2.
Toward the end of this period with just over a minute left during a stoppage, referees reviewed another potential Bulldogs goal that had been called off during play where O’Brien attempted to wrap around shot past Barrie’s goalie Ben Hrebik.
“They just said it wasn’t in,” Mc Kee explained regarding his conversation with officials about this disputed call.
Heading into third period leading shots on goal at an impressive count of 38-17 didn’t help as Brantford appeared less aggressive than before which cost them when Newton found his way through again scoring his second game tying it up at three all around halfway through.
