Barrie Police confirmed Monday that remains discovered at Berczy Park are likely human.

The remains have been forwarded to the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto for additional analysis.

A post-mortem examination is set for later today.

“As the investigation continues, both the east and west walking path entrances to Berczy Park remain closed to the public,” police said in a news release.

You can access the park from Peel Street near Sophia Street East or from Berczy Street close to Queen Street.

Police added that more updates will be shared as they become available.

In September 2024, notices were sent out by the City of Barrie to individuals living in a homeless encampment at Berczy Park, which was later cleared by municipal and police officials under city by-laws enforcement.
