It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of George Barnett on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Hogarth Riverview Manor at the age of 88. George was born in Grandview, Manitoba on June 26, 1938, to Tom and Della Barnett. He married Anita and together they had two daughters, Monique and Paulette. In 1974, they relocated to Red Rock, Ontario where George lived happily until health issues led him to long-term care.
George was an active member of the Red Rock community. He enjoyed playing hockey, baseball, curling, and also joined the volunteer fire department. He worked as a stationary engineer at Domtar/Norampac until he retired. After retiring, he dedicated many hours volunteering for the Northshore Golf Club. A farmer at heart, he loved spending time on a tractor cutting and caring for the greens.
George was a kind man who cared deeply for his family. He was a devoted husband to Anita and a loving father to Monique and Paulette. He took great pride in being a grandfather to Kaleb, Jacob, and Jonah.
His loyalty extended to the sports teams he followed passionately. He remained a lifelong fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Dallas Cowboys, and New York Yankees despite their ups and downs over the years. George was present when the Leafs won the Stanley Cup in 1967 and always joked that he wouldn’t live long enough to see them win again – turns out he was right.
He was predeceased by his dear wife Anita and his daughter Paulette. Their loss weighed heavily on him; life changed without them around. We find comfort knowing they are reunited now. Also predeceased by his parents as well as brothers Allan and William along with many cousins, aunts, and uncles. George is survived by his daughter Monique along with her sons Jacob and Jonah; grandson Kaleb and his father Patrick; brother Miles; plus many other relatives.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Hogarth 4 South for their exceptional care during this time as well as to everyone in Red Rock who supported him after losing his wife. Special appreciation goes out to Doug and Shirlene Mowat for their lasting friendship.
A master of one-liners, George had a quick wit that brought laughter wherever he went. His stories will continue bringing smiles long after he’s gone. In line with George’s wishes, there will be no funeral service held.
