Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital has stopped admitting patients to all units except the critical care unit as it deals with a COVID-19 outbreak.
As of Monday, there were 10 patients and five staff members who tested positive for COVID-19. One death was reported on Friday linked to the outbreak.
Southwestern Public Health noted 30 active COVID-19 cases in Tillsonburg on Monday.
As of Monday, 58 new cases were confirmed in the Oxford-Elgin region. In total, there were 138 ongoing cases. Sixteen individuals in the region were hospitalized, with eight in intensive care units.
“We will take the learnings of our colleagues who have managed outbreaks before us and use that to resolve this outbreak and re-open our hospital to admissions when it is safe to do so,” said Cheryl Pfaff, TDMH Chief Nursing Officer.
“As we see an increase of COVID-19 in the community, we must all do our part and use extreme caution to stop the spread of this virus.”
The hospital first declared an outbreak on May 5 on the ‘2 South’ inpatient unit. That has now expanded to include the ‘2 North’ inpatient unit.
