The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are reaching out to the community for assistance in locating a man who is accused of stealing an item that was up for sale.
On Sunday night, just after 9 p. m., a man showed up at an apartment building in Essex to meet with someone regarding a purchase arranged through a social media site.
According to the police, the victim handed over the item to the suspect, who then took off without paying. Fortunately, the victim did not sustain any injuries.
The suspect is described as a White male, dressed in blue jeans and a black hoodie.
“The OPP is committed to community safety and reminds the public to meet in designated ‘Internet Purchase Exchange Zones’, often found in municipal parking lots or visitor parking spaces near OPP detachments or other police services,” said OPP Constable Stephanie Caron.
If anyone saw what happened or has information about the suspect, they should contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
