The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are reaching out to the community for assistance in finding a man accused of stealing an item that was up for sale.
On Sunday night, around 9 p. m., a man showed up at an apartment complex in Essex to meet someone and finalize the purchase of an item listed on a social media platform.
According to the police, the victim handed over the item to the suspect, who then unexpectedly took off without making any payment. Thankfully, the victim was unharmed.
The suspect is described as a White male wearing blue jeans and a black hoodie.
“The OPP is committed to community safety and reminds the public to meet in designated ‘Internet Purchase Exchange Zones’, often found in municipal parking lots or visitor parking spaces close to OPP detachments or other police services,” said OPP Constable Stephanie Caron.
If anyone witnessed this incident or has information about who the suspect might be, they’re encouraged to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips can also be sent to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
