Raymond Stanley Malinowski passed away on May 19th, 2026 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre at the age of 86 years old.
Ray was born on July 4, 1939, in the Bankend SK area to Stanley and Helen Malinowski. He grew up in a modest rural home as the middle child among five siblings. Ray attended school in Bankend (Grades 1-8) and Foam Lake (Grades 9-12). In February of grade 9, he was diagnosed with tuberculosis and joined his father at the Fort San Sanatorium near Fort Qu’Appelle where he finished Grade 9 and started Grade 10 through correspondence courses. Ray often talked about how it felt being away from family and friends during that year. However, he cherished many memories made with his dad during that time. After losing his father shortly after due to silicosis, Ray promised to look after his mother as his father had wished.
Ray trained at Saskatchewan Teachers College in Moose Jaw before starting his teaching career in Regina. Later on, he worked for Dun & Bradstreet of Canada Ltd., first in Regina then Saskatoon, eventually becoming a Manager in Winnipeg. While living in Saskatoon, he met Elsie from the Smuts-Alvena area at a friend’s birthday party. They got married on July 4, 1964 (keeping with a family tradition of celebrating birthdays with weddings) at St. Mary’s Parish in Saskatoon. The couple spent their early marriage years in Winnipeg before moving to Yorkton in 1967 when Ray joined his brother Leon’s businesses: Leon’s Mfg. and Ram Industries. Dedicated to both family and work, Ray traveled extensively to over 60 countries promoting these businesses while often having Elsie by his side for government export trade missions. In their later years together, they enjoyed summers in Yorkton and winters somewhere warm.
Together with Elsie, Ray raised a lively household filled with five children. His life was built upon hard work, common sense, generosity towards others and a strong faith in God’s plan for them all. He greatly valued education and took immense pride that each of his children earned university degrees. Spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him great joy as well; Ray and Elsie’s lasting message to their family was always clear: “Always remember we love you very much.”
Throughout his extensive career journey, Ray actively participated as a leader within many organizations serving as President for both the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce and Saskatchewan Chambers of Commerce along with holding presidency roles within Prairie Implement Manufacturers’ Association (PIMA). Additionally he chaired various groups such as Agricultural Manufacturers of Canada (AMC), Canadian Farm and Industrial Equipment Institute (CFIEI), Management Internship Program for Native Business while also being involved with Knights of Columbus along Rotary Club of Yorkton.
