Bon Echo Provincial Park – Photo by Emily Chatwood Program now includes weekends and holidays Veterans and active members of the Canadian Armed Forces residing in Ontario can now access Ontario Parks for free every day of the week. The provincial government revealed that the updated program started on July 20, allowing eligible individuals to visit over 340 provincial parks during weekends, long weekends, and statutory holidays, in addition to weekdays. This initiative was first launched in 2019 and was previously restricted to visits on weekdays. Since then, Ontario Parks has seen more than 228,000 visits from veterans, active service members, and their families. Eligible visitors can book online through the Ontario Parks Reservation Service or show valid military ID along with proof of residency in Ontario upon arrival. Free entry also applies to everyone traveling in the same vehicle. The province states that broadening this program will make it easier for veterans and active service members to enjoy outdoor activities, which can enhance both physical and mental health. There’s no limit on how often eligible visitors can utilize the free day-use program, although making reservations is advisable during peak times.
