As of late Friday afternoon, South Water Street between Wilson Street and Pearl Street in Thunder Bay, Ont., was closed off due to a strong police presence in the area. Here’s what we know about the current situation.

South Water Street between Wilson Street and Pearl Street in Thunder Bay, Ont., was shut down as of late Friday afternoon because of a significant police presence in that area.

noticed a train stopped on the tracks adjacent to South Water Street in the city’s north end, with several police vehicles and officers observed behind police tape.

The Thunder Bay Police Service reported that officers were sent to the scene around 3 p. m. ET on Friday after receiving a call for assistance.

“There is no threat to public safety,” said the police service in a news release issued shortly after 4:30 p. m. ET.

“Drivers are advised that traffic is expected to be disrupted, and members of the public are asked to avoid the area. No further information is available at this time.”
