THUNDER BAY – BUSINESS – Labour Day is on Monday, September 7, 2026, and it will result in many retail and public-service closures across Northwestern Ontario.

Most businesses will stick to their usual Saturday and Sunday hours on September 5 and 6. The key day to plan for is Monday. Ontario recognizes Labour Day as a retail business holiday, which means most retail shops need to close unless they meet specific exemptions.

Gas stations, convenience stores, pharmacies, restaurants, hotels, and small food markets may remain open on Monday. Hours can differ by location, and sections within an open store – particularly pharmacies – might operate with shorter hours.

Labour Day Monday Overview

Community Confirmed open or operating Monday Confirmed closed Monday Thunder Bay Beer Store on Fort William Road from 11 a. m. to 6 p. m.; Canada Games Complex from noon to 5 p. m., but no swimming; Thunder Bay Transit will be following its holiday schedule. Intercity Shopping Centre; Walmart locations on Memorial Avenue, Dawson Road, and Arthur Street West; Metro; LCBO stores; Beer Stores on Red River Road and Edward Street North. Kenora Walmart at 24 Miikana Way from 8 a. m. to 6 p. m.; Lake of the Woods Discovery Centre from 8 a. m. to 6 p. m. LCBO; Beer Store; most City of Kenora facilities like City Hall, libraries, , arenas, sports centre, Transfer Station and Recycle Depot. Dryden Some exempt businesses may be operational; customers should verify before heading out. Walmart at 620 Government Street; LCBO; Beer Store.

Important: This list isn’t comprehensive. Holiday schedules can change anytime, and independently operated stores determine their own hours where allowed by law.

What’s Open and Closed in Thunder Bay?

All three Walmart locations in Thunder Bay have stated that they will be closed on Monday: 777 Memorial Avenue, 1020 Dawson Road and 1101 Arthur Street West. Metro’s Thunder Bay store page also indicates that the store is closed on Monday.

Home Depot will not be open on Monday either. Wanson Lumber and Windsor Plywood are also closing their doors so DIY enthusiasts should gather supplies early.

The Intercity Shopping Centre has confirmed that it will be closed for Labour Day. The center lists regular weekend shopping hours as follows: Saturday from 10 a. m. to 6 p. m., Sunday from 11 a. m. to 5 p. m., although individual tenants’ hours may vary.

LCBO stores will not operate. The Beer Store’s hours depend on location: the Fort William Road store is open for Labour Day from 11 a. m. to 6 p. m., while the Red River Road and Edward Street North stores are closed for the holiday.

Thunder Bay Transit will run according to its holiday service schedule on Monday. Riders are advised to check their routes before leaving since not every route offers Sunday or holiday service. Transit Administration offices will be shut down.

The Canada Games Complex plans to be open from noon until 5 p. m., but its pool area-including hot tub facilities-will remain closed due to maintenance starting September 7th. There won’t be any swimming available at the complex this Labour Day.

What’s Open and Closed in Kenora?

The Walmart located at 24 Miikana Way stands out as an exception in Kenora-it’s set to operate with hours of operation being listed as from 8 a. m. until 6 p. m. Customers should confirm pharmacy times separately along with other services offered inside the store.

The Lake of the Woods Discovery Centre at located at 931 Lakeview Drive will also welcome visitors between 8 a. m. and 6 p. m.

The City of Kenora announces that various facilities including City Hall, Provincial Offences Services office building, the Operations Building, Kennore Public Libraries, the , the Moncrief Construction Sports Centre, the Bowman Electric Keewatin Memorial Arena, the Transfer Station, and Recycle Depot all remain shut down during this time period.

The Wave microtransit service won’t operate this coming Monday either. The scheduled garbage collection for Coney Island has been moved over into Tuesday September eighth instead – which happens also marks last collection day for season according city announcements.

Both Kenora’s Beer Store as well as LCBO outlets won’t be open this coming Labor Day either.

What’s Open And Closed In Dryden?

The Dryden Walmart’s official site states that their branch located at610 Government St. is going closed down both Friday evening through entire weekend till late next week. Meanwhile beer stores throughout area along King St. North(Dryden)too aren’t doing business thereafter upcoming national event kicks off too!

Some convenience shops , gas stations , eateries & pharmacies might still function normally depending upon location-specific circumstances- therefore calling ahead beforehand checking if they’re opened would prove valuable before driving long distances unnecessarily , especially given rural nature surrounding these areas here!

Safeway’s webpages currently show “holiday” timings indicating availability between seven am-eleven pm across both Arthur St./Dawson Rd branches situated within town limits whereas six/ten respectively noted applied towards those found situated nearby either neighbouring cities(kenorah/dryden). Banks Mail & Other Services
