KINGSTON – Cataraqui Conservation reports that water levels in Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River basin are increasing and nearing a point where moderate impacts on local properties could become more likely, according to a release from the authority on Monday morning.

Due to “persistent precipitation” since March 1, based on data shared by the International Lake Ontario-St. Lawrence River Board (ILO-SLRB), which oversees Lake Ontario outflows and forecasts water levels, Kingston’s level is up by 0.76 metres at a total of 75.3 metres.. The St. Lawrence River near Brockville measures atBrockville’s reading is at 75.07 metres since March 1.The lake stands  0.84 metres  (above)flood elevation(above)and below  the river’s level of  0.65 metres&nbsp.;

“Extremely wet weather caused water supplies in April to exceed prescribed plan outflows,” ILO-SLRB said in its May 1 statement.

“Because of Ottawa River freshet-an annual spring rise mainly due to rapid snowmelt and heavy rains-and increasing water levels in St. Lawrence River,” they began applying their F limit starting April 16, 2026 as set forth under Regulation Plan 2014.”
