Waterloo Regional Police say they got a call earlier Monday about the theft at Midtown hospital.
The man is accused of taking the gong from the cancer centre, which is operated by the Waterloo Regional Health Network, just over a week ago.
Gongs and bells are commonly used by patients in hospital cancer units to celebrate finishing their treatment.
Authorities state that the 44-year-old suspect has been charged with theft under $5,000 and was kept for a bail hearing.
They mention that the gong hasn’t been recovered and anyone with information should reach out to police.
