Authorities have taken three adults and two teenagers into custody after an armed robbery at Bellagio Jewellers II in the Oshawa Centre on Sunday, which involved citizen interventions inside the mall and a foot chase in the parking lot.

Police received a call about the robbery just before 4 p. m. on Sunday. Four men entered the jewelry shop, using bear spray while breaking display cases. A fifth suspect waited outside in a vehicle.

The suspects tried to escape from the mall before police arrived, but two were apprehended by citizens and mall security. The other three managed to get into their getaway car and were later involved in a minor crash at Stevenson Road North and King Street West.

Following the collision, they ran away on foot but were caught with assistance from the DRPS K-9 Unit.

Some individuals reported minor injuries from exposure to bear spray and received treatment at the scene. Oshawa Fire was called to help ventilate any areas affected by it.
