Since early April, Peterborough OPP have arrested several individuals for impaired driving.
The first incident took place on April 1, 2026, around 7 p. m. An officer from the Peterborough County OPP was sent to a crash site on Dummer-Asphodel Road in Douro-Dummer Township. A caller reported that someone had crashed their vehicle and was then picked up by another car.
Officers tracked down the driver and went to a home in Norwood to talk with them. During their conversation, officers realized the driver was impaired and made an arrest. The person was taken to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for additional tests but didn’t provide the necessary samples. While at the detachment, the accused triggered an alarm system, leading to an extra charge.
Raymond Bradley, a 39-year-old from Norwood, faced charges for operating while impaired, failing or refusing to comply with a demand, mischief, and failing to remain at the scene.
The accused is set to appear in court at the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough in June. Their driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded for seven days.
Another event occurred on Saturday just after 1:30 a. m. A Peterborough County OPP officer traveling east on Highway 7 in Otonabee-South Monaghan Township noticed a vehicle speeding over the limit. The officer followed as it exhibited signs typical of impaired driving.
The officer pulled over the vehicle using emergency lights and saw a beverage container tossed out as it slowed down. Upon approaching the car and talking with the driver, it became clear they were impaired. The driver was arrested and taken to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further testing.
Thomas Brown, a 43-year-old from Norwood, was charged with operation while impaired, having a blood alcohol level over 80, speeding, having liquor readily available while driving, possessing more than one licence, and littering.
The accused is expected to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough in May. Their driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded for seven days.
A third incident took place on Sunday shortly after 2 a. m., when an officer traveling westbound on Highway 7 toward Peterborough spotted a car facing backwards at an intersection and initiated a traffic stop.
While speaking with the driver, it became evident they were under alcohol influence. The officer asked them to give a breath sample into a screening device but they failed to do so and were subsequently arrested.
Jenny Chen, a 35-year-old from Scarborough, was charged with failure or refusal to comply with demand.
The accused is due back at Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough this June. Her driver’s licence has also been suspended for 90 days and her vehicle impounded for seven days.
