A new Chick-fil-A takeout restaurant is being looked at for a spot that serves both Mississauga and Oakville.

A site plan application has been submitted to the Town of Oakville to establish the restaurant in the plaza located at the southwest corner of Winston Churchill Boulevard and Dundas Street West.

While technically in Oakville, this location mainly aims at customers from Mississauga.

The plaza also features Winners, Sportchek, and Staples.

According to limited information provided with Chick-fil-A’s application, the idea is to “redevelop the existing single-storey fast food restaurant with a single drive-through to a new single-storey fast food restaurant with a double drive-through.”

At present, Burger King is the only fast food option at that site.

A representative from Chick-fil-A mentioned they have no details on the project to share right now, while employees at Burger King said they haven’t heard about any plans.

There’s no timeline for when the restaurant might open, and it still needs approval from the Town of Oakville. If it goes ahead, it will mark Oakville’s first Chick-fil-A.

Mississauga currently has two Chick-fil-A locations, one at Square One and another at Heartland Town Centre, along with a site in Burlington on Appleby Line.

Starting back in 1946 when founder S. Truett Cathy opened his first eatery in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia, Chick-fil-A has expanded into a global brand with over 3,000 restaurants. When it entered Toronto in 2019, customers eagerly lined up to try out its offerings. It has since launched 16 more locations across Ontario, including two in Mississauga and one in Burlington.

The company has stated its goal is aggressive expansion within Canada. Currently, there are 22 Chick-fil-A restaurants operating in Ontario.

And as for what’s on the menu? It’s all about chicken.

Differentiating itself from other fast-food chains, Chick-fil-A specializes in chicken – particularly sandwiches – though chicken strips and nuggets are available too along with several side options.

<p“That's what we specialize in, and that's why we think it is the best,” the late Cathy once said when discussing his business concept.

Cathy also claimed he invented the chicken sandwich. While some may disagree with that assertion, he is credited for making chicken sandwiches popular across restaurants.

Notably, even though operating during standard dining hours, Chick-fil-A remains closed on Sundays as part of Cathy’s Christian beliefs.
