A Toronto police constable, accused of sharing sensitive information with criminals in a major corruption case, will continue to be held in custody after a bail review at Ontario’s Superior Court.

Const. Timothy Barnhardt is among eight current and former Toronto police officers facing charges in Project South, an organized crime and corruption inquiry spearheaded by York Regional Police.

Authorities have indicated that the investigation revealed claims of bribery, conspiracy to commit murder, and drug trafficking, among other serious offences.

Barnhardt is facing 17 charges, the highest number of any officer implicated in this investigation, including charges related to cocaine trafficking and bribery.

The police allege that the 56-year-old officer provided personal details to Brian Da Costa, who is said to be a “key figure” within a criminal network that has international connections.

The evidence and arguments presented during Barnhardt’s bail hearing and review process are subject to a standard publication ban.
