A 55-year-old man from St. Catharines, Ont., has been charged with two counts of sexual assault after an investigation by the Niagara Regional Police Service.
Detectives started looking into the matter in March when two teenage girls reported being assaulted between May and January, according to a news release from police on Wednesday.
On April 15, officers arrested Shawn Hollingworth, charging him with two counts of sexual assault and sexual interference.
Hollingworth “was an acquaintance of the victims’ families, and the offences are alleged to have taken place at a home in St. David’s,” police said.
He was set to appear for a bail hearing in St. Catharines on Thursday.
Authorities believe there could be more victims dating back to the early 2000s and have encouraged anyone with information or who may be a victim to reach out.
