A crash involving multiple vehicles on Highway 1, just east of Portage la Prairie near Oakville, led to a Code Orange alert at Portage District General Hospital on Friday. Thankfully, officials report that all patients are now stable.

The accident took place earlier in the afternoon and involved a significant number of vehicles. Emergency Medical Services transported all individuals from the scene to the hospital, where they were quickly triaged and assessed by medical staff.

Southern Health‑Santé Sud activated the Code Orange briefly, which is a protocol used for mass-casualty situations that brings in extra resources and personnel to manage a large number of patients. This alert prompted additional doctors, nurses, and support staff to be called in for assistance.

The Code Orange was lifted at 2:14 p. m., with hospital officials confirming that everyone brought in from the accident was stable.

Earlier communications from the hospital indicated that some roads nearby were either unsafe or closed, urging staff to come only if they could do so safely.

The Portage Fire Department announced that emergency crews have cleared the collision site. RCMP remained at the location into the afternoon while tow trucks worked to remove damaged vehicles.

No additional information has been provided about what caused the crash or details regarding any injuries sustained.

Officials expressed their gratitude towards hospital staff and emergency responders for their swift and coordinated efforts.
