UPDATE: Police reported around 3:30 p. m. that the highway lanes have reopened and cleanup efforts are currently ongoing.

The original story follows below.

Authorities have shut down lanes on a busy Ontario highway after a rollover accident occurred in Whitby on Wednesday.

The OPP stated shortly after 2:30 p. m. that a vehicle had flipped in the eastbound lanes of Highway 407 at Thickson Road. They mentioned that only one vehicle was involved, which crashed into a crash cushion.

Images from the scene depict a truck that collided with the barrier, with emergency crews present to assist.

Police indicated that the driver sustained injuries from the crash but did not specify what those injuries were.

The off-ramp leading to Thickson Road, as well as the right-hand lane of eastbound Highway 407, are closed.

Motorists are advised to avoid this area and seek alternative routes if possible.
