<p Around 5:40 p. m., officers from the South Bruce OPP were trying to arrest a person linked to several incidents earlier that day across South Bruce and Huron County, according to an SIU news release.
The individual was found at a home on the Bruce Saugeen Townline by members of the Emergency Response team along with the Canine Unit. During this encounter, police fired their weapon and as a result, a 48-year-old man was declared dead at the scene, as stated in the release.
The SIU indicated that initial details suggest that throughout Saturday, the man allegedly committed multiple motor vehicle thefts and residential break-ins in various areas, including taking a firearm.

As events unfolded during the day, police made several efforts to find the man. He was spotted later that afternoon driving a stolen vehicle. A tire deflation device was used which caused his vehicle to go off-road; he then ran away on foot, as reported by the SIU.
The man was found near Side Road 13 and Bruce-Saugeen Townline. There was an interaction between him and officers outside a house when one officer discharged his weapon and struck him, according to information from SIU.
Lifesaving measures were initiated and he was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday per SIU reports.
Four investigators along with three forensic investigators are working on this case as stated by SIU officials. Anyone with information regarding this investigation-including video or photos-is encouraged to contact lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or visit siu. on. ca/en/appeals. php
