As events unfolded during the day, police made several efforts to find the man. He was spotted later that afternoon driving a stolen vehicle. A tire deflation device was used which caused his vehicle to go off-road; he then ran away on foot, as reported by the SIU.
The man was found near Side Road 13 and Bruce-Saugeen Townline. There was an interaction between him and officers outside a house when one officer discharged his weapon and struck him, according to information from SIU.
Lifesaving measures were initiated and he was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday per SIU reports.

AT ABOUT FOUR FORTY FOUR P. M ON SATURDAY WEST REGION OPP ANNOUNCED ON SOCIAL MEDIA THAT BRUCE SAUGEEN TOWNLINE WAS CLOSED BETWEEN SIDE ROAD TEN AND J & I SIDE ROAD NEAR NORTH BRUCE JUST SOUTH OF PORT ELGIN.
THERE WAS A STRONG POLICE PRESENCE IN THE AREA AND DRIVERS WERE ADVISED TO SEEK AN ALTERNATIVE ROUTE WHILE POLICE ADDED THERE WAS NO THREAT TO PUBLIC SAFETY.

JUST AFTER FIVE PM WHEN FIRST POSTED BY WEST REGION OPP SAUGEEN SHORES POLICE ALSO ADVISED PEOPLE TO STEER CLEAR OF GUSTAVUS STREET INTERSECTION WITH GODERICH STREET DUE TO MULTI VEHICLE COLLISION. SEEING THERE WAS NO DANGER FOR PUBLIC SAFETY THEY INDICATED MORE DETAILS WOULD BE SHARED BY OPP LATER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. SUNDAY MORNING OFFICIALS STILL HAD NOT CONFIRMED WHETHER INCIDENTS NEAR NORTH BRUCE WERE CONNECTED TO WHAT OCCURRED IN PORT ELGIN OR NOT. T
