St. Catharines councillors voted unanimously Monday to start the process of possibly changing the name of a residential street named after Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
The motion, introduced by Mayor Mat Siscoe, suggests reviewing and considering renaming Prince Andrew Court. This includes public consultation with local residents and stakeholders, as well as having staff provide recommendations, which will cover alternative names and any financial or administrative impacts.
An amendment added during Monday night’s meeting will require staff to also report on policies related to street renaming and scenarios involving city assets.
Siscoe told last Thursday that Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest was the tipping point for him.
“St. Catharines councillors and I have been having discussions for some time about whether the court should be renamed,” he said in a statement.

“Given today’s news of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest, I would say there is no reason to continue discussing.”
