Labour Day is on Monday, and for many people in London, it’s the last chance to enjoy a bit more summer during the long weekend.

Here’s what you should know about what’s available and what’s not around the city.

Recreation

The City of London is providing a variety of free recreational activities on Monday, such as swimming, arts and crafts, science workshops, and basketball. Some activities need registration while others are available for drop-in.

This year, Londoners still have several opportunities for an outdoor swim.

Byron, Southcrest, and Silverwoods pools will be open on Monday, although they’re closing for the season that day. Gibbons and Stronach pools will stay open past the holiday.

A few wading pools will also have their last day on Labour Day, including Meredith, Silverwoods, and Springbank parks.

The city’s spray pads are open from 9 a. m. to 9 p. m., but Ivey Park spray pad will remain closed for the rest of the year.

If you want something other than swimming, Storybook Gardens will be open from 10 a. m. to 6 p. m. on Monday. Admission costs $10.70 with free entry for kids under two years old.

Other attractions like the London Children’s Museum at Kellogg Lane, East Park, and Boler Mountain are also accessible throughout the long weekend.

The branches of London Public Library will be closed on Monday due to Labour Day; however, its digital library remains available online.

Shopping and groceries

If you’re planning to shop, it’s wise to check before heading out.

White Oaks Mall and CF Masonville Place will not be open on Monday for Labour Day.

Individual stores along with restaurants and grocery shops set their own holiday hours so checking ahead is a good idea before making a trip.

Liquor and beer retailers might also have holiday closures or shorter hours than usual.

Transit

The transit system in London will operate under a holiday schedule on Monday.

A number of route changes take effect Sunday, Sept. 6; regular riders should verify their routes prior to leaving home.

Banks, mail and garbage

Banks won’t be operating on Monday.

No regular Canada Post collection or delivery will happen on Labour Day either.

If your usual garbage collection day is Monday,

your pickup gets pushed back one day to Tuesday,

Sept. 8.
..
So if you’re going out Monday,be sureto checkthe hours first. The forecast from Environment Canada suggests cloudy skies with a high temperature reaching 23 C.
