Ontario will set aside 150 immigration spots for foreign workers in the Nipissing District, as stated by the City of North Bay.

The quota was shared by the City of North Bay’s Economic Development Department on its official website on Oct. 26, 2026, although the webpage currently returns a 404 error.

CIC News contacted the city for additional details but didn’t receive a response by publication time.

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) intends to issue nominations for permanent residency in 2027 through its Regional Economic Development through Immigration (REDI) initiative.

To qualify for permanent residency via the REDI initiative, a foreign worker needs to have a job offer within Nipissing District, meet the minimum requirements of an OINP stream, and submit an online expression of interest with their employer’s backing.

The OINP will choose candidates and inform those selected about how to apply.

Individuals who are invited can then apply for provincial nomination. If approved, they can use that nomination to apply to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada for permanent residency.

At present, the only active pathway through OINP to permanent residency is via the Ontario Workforce Priority Stream.

Additionally, Ontario has chosen five other regions to take part in the 2026-2027 REDI initiative:

Greater Sudbury/Grand Sudbury; Kenora District; Rainy River District; Renfrew County; and Thunder Bay.

The list of participating regions was released by OINP on its REDI initiative webpage on Oct. 14.

For defining each region’s geographic boundaries, OINP uses census divisions established by Statistics Canada.

Among the six regions involved in the 2026-2027 REDI initiative, only Nipissing District and Thunder Bay have confirmed their allocation of nominations publicly as of Nov. 3.

Ontario’s REDI initiative functions under OINP, reserving part of its annual nomination allocation specifically for eligible workers in regions outside the Greater Toronto Area.

During its previous phase from Jan. 2 to Dec. 31, 2025, OINP allocated 800 nomination spaces across four regions: Lanark County, Leeds and Grenville, Sarnia-Lambton, and Thunder Bay each received 200 spaces.

As it stands now, there haven’t been any updates posted on OINP’s website regarding plans for allocating REDI nominations in 2027.
