OSHAWA – Ontario’s police watchdog has announced it is looking into a man’s death after he refused to leave a residence east of Toronto this past weekend.
The Special Investigations Unit reports that a woman contacted the police late Sunday night, stating there was an unwanted man inside her home in Oshawa, Ont.
Authorities say Durham Region police arrived and discovered that while the woman had left, the 42-year-old man remained inside and was not responding to officers.
The police watchdog indicates that officers forced entry and found the man “unwell.”
He was transported to a hospital where he passed away on Tuesday night.
The SIU has assigned three investigators along with one forensic investigator to look into the situation.
