The police oversight agency in Ontario is looking into an incident where a Toronto officer fired a weapon while responding to a carjacking case in Mississauga on Wednesday evening.
Toronto police were at a parking lot near Tomken Road and Dundas Street E. in Mississauga around 9 p. m. Wednesday for the carjacking investigation, according to the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU).
Officers “conducted a takedown” after two suspects approached a vehicle they were interested in.
An interaction occurred between police and one suspect, resulting in an officer discharging his firearm, as stated by the SIU. That suspect fled and has not been found yet.
It’s unclear if that man was hit by gunfire. The second suspect has been arrested, according to the SIU.
<p)According to the Special Investigations Unit Act, the SIU is handling this case because an officer discharged a weapon at an individual.
Three investigators and two forensic specialists are currently examining the situation, as reported by them.

No officers were hurt during the incident, said Toronto police.
