The operator of Pickering Casino Resort, found at the corner of Church Street and Bayly Street in Pickering, is facing serious scrutiny after being hit with a hefty fine for not reporting activities that may suggest money laundering. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) performed an audit and discovered that Great Canadian Entertainment, which runs the casino, failed to adequately evaluate and monitor high-risk customers.
This lack of adherence to required scrutiny measures resulted in a penalty of $170,000. The audit showed that necessary suspicious transaction reports were missing in several instances where customers displayed possible signs of money laundering. The AGCO has allowed Great Canadian Entertainment 15 days to contest the ruling. The company hasn’t yet responded to media inquiries.
