The moon will be nearly full, creating a great atmosphere for an exciting event hosted by the Station Arts Centre on Oct. 29.
The Moon Market will feature a mix of dancing, food trucks, a costume parade, an artisan market, and much more from 5 to 10 p. m. It coincides with the Downtown Tillsonburg BIA’s Witches’ Night Out, which is part of its Late Night Thursday series downtown.
Tabitha Verbuyst, executive director and curator of the Station Arts Centre, shared that this event will serve as a fundraiser in place of their fall gala and is being organized alongside the BIA’s activities that night. The event will raise funds through a silent auction, drink sales, and vendor fees.
“It’s a stepping stone pilot project,” said Cailey Coderre, the social media lead at Station Arts Centre who is managing the planning for the Moon Market. “We’re aiming to address an event need similar to our Holiday Arts Market while raising money for the station.”
The Moon Market builds on the Witches’ Night Out event held two years ago at the Station Arts Centre. That gathering featured vendors and dancing. The Moon Market aims to expand on that idea.
Coderre mentioned there’ll be a costume parade along Bridge Street, a Harvest Circle with live music and local food trucks designed for families, a Moon Tavern for those over 19, and the Witch’s Ball.
“We’ll all end the night together, dancing away,” Coderre said.
The evening aims to complement Witches’ Night Out happening at downtown shops and restaurants.
“You can explore downtown and then come over to enjoy artisans and some dancing-things like that,” Verbuyst said.
This event also hopes to provide young families with more options in Tillsonburg. While there will definitely be Halloween elements involved, the Moon Market is also tied to harvest themes.
“It’s not meant to be spooky-scary; it’s meant to be a fun family event,” Verbuyst said. p >
This year there will also be updates to Witch’s Night Out , including a passport system encouraging visitors to check out multiple vendors. It promises shopping along with themed drinks available at local bars. p >
“What we ’ re doing is cross-promoting our events so people who attend late-night shopping can visit both events , ” said Vanessa Fortner. “It’s essentially two events joining forces in support of each other.” p >
