On Wednesday morning, drivers passing by stopped to assist a motorist whose car was sinking in Guelph Lake after it veered off Wellington Road 124 in southern Ontario.

The car was retrieved from the lake by investigators, according to the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Those who stopped helped get the driver, who was trapped inside the vehicle, safely back to shore.

The driver received assessment from paramedics at the scene and was later taken to hospital for minor injuries.

During the investigation, OPP closed Wellington Road 124 and Jones Baseline as they examined the crash site more closely.

A damaged guard rail was discovered during their inquiry. Police believe that no other vehicles were involved.

If anyone has information related to this incident, they are encouraged to contact OPP or Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington.
