The province invested $220,000 for essential upgrades to enhance Vaughan Fire Station 7-1
THORNHILL – Today, Laura Smith, MPP for Thornhill, and Amarjot Sandhu, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Infrastructure attended a ceremony hosted by the City of Vaughan to mark the completion of upgrades to Vaughan Fire Station 7-1. “Today’s reopening is great news for our community and for the firefighters who work every day to keep us safe,” said Laura Smith, MPP for Thornhill. “Our government’s investment in Vaughan Fire Station 7-1 is about making sure our frontline heroes have the modern facilities and resources they need to respond when it matters most.” The Government of Ontario invested $220,000, together with $880,000 from the Government of Canada and $3.4 million from the City of Vaughan. “Our government is proud to support local infrastructure projects that will lay the foundation for strong, resilient communities and make a real difference in people’s lives,” said Amarjot Sandhu, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Infrastructure. “The revitalization of the City of Vaughan’s Fire Station 7-1 will help ensure firefighters have the modern facilities they need to respond quickly to emergencies and help keep the community safe. This project is part of Ontario’s $236 billion capital plan over the next decade to build and expand infrastructure that will help keep workers on the job and support economic growth.” The renewal project included a comprehensive upgrade of the station, featuring a reconfigured interior layout, new windows and doors, an upgraded HVAC system, energy-efficient lighting, utility service enhancements, a new backup generator, roof replacement and other key infrastructure improvements. “At the City of Vaughan, we’re doing everything possible to invest in community safety, which includes revitalizing our emergency service facilities to meet the needs of our growing city,” said Steven Del Duca, Mayor of Vaughan. “The upgrades to Fire Station 7-1 will help our firefighters do what they do best – respond quickly and effectively when people need them most. At the same time, they will reduce energy consumption, lower water use and support the city’s commitment to environmental sustainability. I want to thank both the federal and provincial governments for their partnership and investments in this project. Thank you, Chief Andrew Zvanitajs, for your leadership; thank you also to all firefighters and staff for your continued service and dedication to our community.” These enhancements will reduce electricity demand, natural gas consumption and water use while improving day-to-day operations and extending the lifespan of the facility. “I am thrilled to celebrate a successful project with strong partnerships that will benefit Thornhill’s community for years ahead,” said Gila Martow, Vaughan Ward 5 Councillor. “From a reconfigured interior layout along with new windows and doors to a modern HVAC system paired with energy-efficient lighting; every improvement was clearly designed with safety as well as efficiency in mind along with long-term sustainability being prioritized too! Thanks go out everyone who played a role in bringing this vision alive-congratulations on achieving such an important milestone!” QUICK FACTS In addition to ICIP funding, the Government of Ontario has invested $55 million through MHIP into Vaughan’s local infrastructure; this helps unlock around 45 thousand new homes being built here! Across York Region itself alone saw total investment come up at $194 million plus towards core infrastructures intended specifically aimed at helping communities grow further while prospering economically overall as well! Ontario has made record-breaking contributions totaling up now reaching four billion dollars directed primarily towards satisfying various regional infrastructural requirements through Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program (MHIP). This undertaking aligns directly within broader context under Ontario’s larger capital planning scheme amounting currently at $236 billion dedicated specifically focusing upon building highways alongside transit systems encompassing hospitals alongside schools including additional critical infrastructures meant strengthening communities whilst safeguarding economy alike!
