The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Lakeshore have issued tickets to the parents of two teenagers after they broke e-bike usage rules.
Officers pulled over two individuals under 16 on Tuesday when they spotted them riding e-bikes along Notre Dame Street in Belle River.
A parent of each young rider received a citation for letting an underage person operate an e-bike, which is against the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.
The OPP mentioned that some individuals still aren’t grasping the importance of safe e-bike operation.
“Traffic safety is everyone’s responsibility. Please do your part to help keep our pathways and roadways safe for everyone,” read a social media post from the OPP.
According to Ontario law, riders of e-bikes must be at least 16 years old, wear a certified bicycle or motorcycle helmet, and ensure their bikes have working pedals and comply with provincial safety regulations.
Riders are also required to adhere to the same traffic rules as cyclists.
