Fire officials from Barrie report that no one was present in the fourth-floor apartment when a propane tank exploded on the balcony.
They indicated that there was substantial damage to the apartment’s interior, and several residents have been displaced, while others were permitted to return to their homes.
Fortunately, there were no injuries.

Barrie Fire Service is looking into a fire at an apartment that they believe was ignited by a propane explosion.
Officials informed Barrie 360 that they received a 911 call just after 6:30 Saturday evening and responded to Chef Lane off Mapleview Drive East.
The fire occurred on the top floor of the four-storey building.

The explosion took place on the apartment’s balcony.
As a safety measure, at least two City of Barrie transit buses were brought to provide shelter for residents from other units within the building.
No injuries have been reported; however, it remains unconfirmed if anyone was inside the apartment during the blast.
The Ontario Fire Marshal has been notified.
