A woman in her 40s was discovered dead inside an apartment in Burlington, Ont., and a man in his 40s has been apprehended, according to police.
Officers received a call for a well-being check at an apartment near Guelph Line and Glencrest Road around 6:30 a. m. Thursday, as reported by Halton police.
Upon arrival, officers located the woman’s body within the apartment.
Authorities say they identified a suspect who had left the scene before they arrived. Investigators found that the man had escaped to the Niagara Falls area and reached out to Niagara Regional Police.
The suspect was located and taken into custody by Niagara police at about 7:45 a. m. on Thursday.
According to police, the woman and the suspect were acquainted, and there are no other suspects being sought at this time.
“There is no associated risk to the public here,” Const. Ryan Anderson told CBC Hamilton Thursday.
Anderson mentioned that the man is still in custody, with charges expected soon.
The identity of the woman has not yet been released by authorities.
This incident marks Halton Region’s second homicide of the year, Anderson stated.
“We will have more information on charges and details in the coming days as the investigation continues and unfolds,” he said.
Investigators from Halton’s Major Crime Bureau are urging anyone with information to reach out or contact Crime Stoppers.
