John Thomas Steven passed away at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital on September 3, 2026, after battling rheumatoid arthritis for five years. He was 89. John was preceded in death by his wife; his sons David and Gary; his sisters Helen, Ina, Nan and Wee Helen; and his brother Archie. He is fondly remembered by his son Paul; grandchildren Jessica and Eric; great-grandson Theo; sisters Mary and Isa; nieces and nephews; along with extended family members like Christopher and Jeffrey. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on February 24, 1937, John made the move to Canada in 1964. He worked as a carpenter before retiring in 2002 from his role as Newmarket’s deputy building inspector. John enjoyed playing tennis until he turned 82 and was known among friends as a fiercely competitive curler. He also loved golf, spending 15 years playing at Cedarhurst Golf Club. Family and friends are invited to Cedarhurst Golf Club, located at 825 Thorah Concession Road 4, Beaverton, on Sunday, October 18, 2026, from 2:00 p. m. to 4:00 p. m., to share stories and raise a glass in memory of John.
