Ontario Tech University is set to grow its presence in Oshawa, announcing plans for a new academic building, a residence hall, and a high-performance complex in the near future.

A recent news release indicates that Ontario Tech is entering an exciting new phase of development following several years of consistent enrollment increases. This expansion aligns with the school’s Campus Master Plan, which aims to create a more inviting, navigable, and engaging environment focused on people.

The upcoming phase will focus on a new academic building expected to be completed by 2029. This facility will be constructed on what is currently known as Founders Lot 2, which will move vehicle access to the edges of the campus.

“Experiential learning is a defining feature of an Ontario Tech University education,” said Dr. Lori Livingston, Provost and Vice-President, Academic. “This new building will create more opportunities for students to apply their knowledge, collaborate across disciplines and develop the skills they need to make an impact beyond the classroom.”

“This project is about transforming how people experience and engage with our campus,” said Dr. Steven Murphy, President and Vice-Chancellor. “By creating more people-focused spaces, we are strengthening connections between the places that make Ontario Tech University special. This building is the first major step toward a north campus where students can learn by doing, enjoy a truly connected campus and come together as one Ontario Tech community.”

As part of this growth initiative, additional residences are also being planned. One such project called “The Ridge” is already underway and slated to open in fall 2027 with 450 beds available in its initial phase. There are also plans for another new residence that will connect directly to the academic building and add another 400 beds.

Ontario Tech will also be developing a state-of-the-art facility for athletics, recreation, and student life at their shared north Oshawa campus with Durham College. The Campus High-Performance Complex is expected to launch in August 2028. This complex will include nearly 60,000 square feet of new space along with renovations covering over 9,000 square feet within the Campus Ice Centre.

The complex will feature basketball and volleyball courts along with an integrated strength training area, fitness facilities, study lounges, expanded dining options alongside two ice pads.
