Ontario’s police oversight agency has charged a constable from London with assault causing bodily harm related to an event in March that left a man with significant injuries.
The Special Investigations Unit revealed the charge against Const. Stephen Farrand on Wednesday, stating that the alleged event occurred on March 18, 2026, at Victoria Hospital.
As per the agency, the individual was taken to the hospital following his arrest under the Mental Health Act.
“At the hospital, there was an interaction with an officer that resulted in the man suffering serious injuries,” the SIU said. No further details were provided.
Farrand is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in London on September 22, according to the agency.
“As this matter is currently before the courts and in consideration of ensuring a fair trial for the accused, the SIU will not comment further on this investigation.”
A request for comments from London police went unanswered before publication.
This marks the second occasion within two years that a London police officer, whether active or retired, has faced criminal charges from the SIU.
In February 2025, it was reported that a former officer named Edward Lane was charged with two counts of sexual assault based on allegations dating back to the 1980s and early 1990s.
This case remains pending in court.
