A local farmers market just outside of London has been ordered to shut down until it can fix several fire and safety issues, according to the Thames Centre Fire Department (TCFD) on Tuesday.
The Trails End Market, found at 4370 Dundas Street in Thorndale, Ont., has “serious fire and life safety deficiencies” on its property, as stated in a news release from the TCFD.
After conducting multiple inspections of the site, the fire department issued an Order to Close that was later approved by the Office of the Fire Marshal.
“The Thames Centre Fire Department recognizes that the closure of a building is a serious measure; however, the conditions observed during inspection process require such a response due to the fire and life safety concerns identified,” the fire department said.
“The life safety of the public, the vendors, and the regular occupants of the building remains the Fire Department’s highest priority.”

The Trails End Market usually runs every Saturday and Sunday, hosting various food, furniture, and collectible vendors.
It will stay closed until it meets all inspection requirements set by the fire department, which will conduct a follow-up inspection before people can return to the site.
In 1993, a fire destroyed what was then called London Sales Arena at this same location where Trails End Market now operates. The fire department noted that current structures at the market “exhibit many of the same issues identified when the previous building was destroyed.”
