Shooting Incident Closes Waaban Crossing in Kingston

A bridge located in Kingston was shut down after a serious event took place on the Waaban Crossing early Wednesday morning.

As reported by police, around 9:40 a. m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026, there was a “police involved shooting” at the Waaban Crossing, which resulted in both directions of the bridge being closed.

“There is no risk to public safety,” Kingston Police mentioned in a press release sent out at 10:43 a. m.

Authorities stated that the bridge will likely remain closed for an extended time.

“Please choose an alternate route,” said Kingston Police.

When asked about any injuries or fatalities from the shooting, Constable Anthony Colangeli, Media Relations Officer for Kingston Police, stated he couldn’t provide more details since the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been notified.

The SIU is responsible for investigating incidents involving police that result in injuries or deaths and also those involving firearms or other alleged criminal activities (like sexual assault).

Kingstonist has reached out to the SIU to confirm their investigation and gather further details.

Kingston Fire and Rescue along with Frontenac Paramedics were also present at the scene; however, Kingstonist hasn’t yet confirmed if anyone was taken to hospital by paramedics.
