Halton police have charged a former worker from an Oakville dental office after an investigation into financial crimes revealed that over $235,000 was allegedly stolen and funneled into personal bank accounts.
The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) reports that the inquiry began in April 2025 following claims that a male staff member had been illegally transferring funds from the dental practice to accounts he managed. These transactions took place while he was still working at the clinic.
For several months, investigators employed what police referred to as “a variety of investigative techniques” to track the movement of money. They found that between May 2023 and January 2025, more than $235,000 had been taken out and redirected into the employee’s accounts.
On May 1, 2026, authorities arrested Ngoc Tuan Nguyen, 36, from Mississauga. He faces charges of fraud over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and laundering proceeds of crime.
Nguyen has been released on an undertaking and is set to appear in court in Milton.
Police believe the accused may have previously worked at other dental offices and are concerned there could be more victims out there.
