The team behind the popular series Reacher is alerting locals near an east-end motel about anticipated traffic increases and sharing the filming schedule.
Preparations for the shoot – going by the codename ‘Honcho’ – have been ongoing for several weeks, with filming starting Monday at Knights Inn on King Street (locally referred to as Kingsway Motel) from 1 a. m. to 11 p. m. daily until August 26.
Late night filming (until 1 a. m.) will occur on August 25-26, with overnight shoots (until 5 a. m.) planned for August 20-21. The wrap-up, including set removal and property restoration, will happen from August 27 to September 10.
During the production period, there will be more vehicles, equipment, and crew around the motel area, along with temporary lighting setup as mentioned in the notice.
“Some scenes involve staged action sequences with performers and picture vehicles, all of which are choreographed and carried out under the supervision of qualified stunt and safety personnel.”
A full closure of Farewell Street between Athol Street and King Street will be enforced during production, while brief traffic stoppages may occur on King Street – never lasting more than a few minutes at a time – managed by Durham Regional Police.
Oshawa has served as a filming location before; downtown Oshawa hosted shoots at the former bus terminal in 2023 for Season 2.

This upcoming season is the fifth installment of Reacher, based on Lee Child’s novels. Season 5 draws inspiration from his twentieth book, Make Me.
The motel has been undergoing major renovations to become a place that Jack Reacher-a former U. S. Army military police major who leads a nomadic life-can call ‘home.’ He travels from town to town getting involved in murder cases and conspiracies along his journey.
In Season one (released February 2022), Reacher finds himself in Margrave-a rural town portrayed using locations like Port Perry and film sets created in north Pickering-where he’s arrested for murdering someone who turns out to be his brother before teaming up with honest cops to take down a local counterfeiting ring.
In Season two (December 2023), Reacher gets contacted by Frances Neagley from his old army special investigations unit about a conspiracy targeting all members of his former team.
The third season (February 2025) sees him facing off against past enemies involved in arms trafficking while in Season four, he witnesses a woman take her own life on a subway train which pulls him into a deadly game filled with powerful adversaries.
