On October 3, Captain Michael Vanden Bos Public School marked its 25th anniversary with a celebration filled with memories, inspiration, and community pride. The event brought together students, staff, alumni, families, and community members and featured a special donation from the Vanden Bos family: uniforms worn by Captain Michael Vanden Bos during his time with the Canadian Forces Snowbirds.
Principal Claire Boychyn was present to reflect on her role when she opened the school in 2001.
The uniforms will be showcased at the school, serving as a historical reminder that inspires future students to reach their own heights and find their unique paths to “fly.”
During the celebration, the school’s original principal shared her thoughts on what it meant to open the school and honor Captain Michael Vanden Bos through its name. Students took center stage throughout the event by delivering heartfelt speeches about representing his legacy while showcasing their talents through Bollywood and hip-hop dance performances.
Current Principal Kristin Ferron expressed her appreciation for all generations of students, staff, families, and community members who have contributed to shaping the school over these past twenty-five years.
“Celebrating 25 years is an incredible milestone. Our school is more than a place of learning; it is a community built on connection, belonging and the belief that every student has the potential to soar. It is an honour to lead such an inspiring school community, and we are deeply grateful to everyone who has helped make it what it is today.”
The festivities continued outdoors with a community barbecue featuring face painting, cotton candy, and family activities. A collection of memorabilia provided a nostalgic look back at twenty-five years of history at the school.

This anniversary was not only about celebrating where the school has been but also honoring those who continue to influence its future. The school extends heartfelt thanks to the Vanden Bos family for their generous gift along with gratitude for every student, staff member, family member, alumnus, and community supporter who has played a part in its journey.
