A worker has been taken into custody after authorities reported that a large amount of specialized equipment was stolen from an aerospace firm in Oakville.
In a news announcement on Thursday, Halton Regional Police shared that they initiated an investigation in early June when the company alerted them about the theft of specific millwright and aerospace tools.
Throughout their investigation, police pinpointed the suspect as an employee who allegedly attempted to sell the stolen items on social media.
On June 30, police carried out a search warrant at a residence in Brantford and apprehended the suspect. During this operation, officers recovered $250,000 worth of equipment, as well as $150,000 in Canadian cash. They also seized several expensive designer watches and sunglasses.
Halton seizure Police also seized $150,000 in cash along with numerous pairs of high-end sunglasses and watches.
Abhishek Kumar Patel, 30, from Brantford, faces multiple charges including theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 for the purpose of trafficking.
The charges have not yet been proven in court.
Authorities say that the investigation is still ongoing and encourage anyone with information to reach out to them.
