Pätz and Casper Secure Spots at GSOC Open with Wins

Alina Pätz and Danny Casper have officially earned their spots in the GSOC Open.

Team Pätz and Team Casper clinched the championships at the Stu Sells Oakville Tankard, which is part of the new Satellite Events series designed to help teams qualify for the Grand Slam of Curling through recognized tour events.

Pätz triumphed over Team Xenia Schwaller 6-4, while Casper won against Team Jordon Mc Donald 9-5 during Monday’s finals held in Oakville, Ontario, making them the first qualifiers for the GSOC Open.

The fourth Grand Slam of Curling event this season will take place from Dec. 1-6 in Thunder Bay, Ontario. It features 16 teams across men’s and women’s divisions: the top 12 teams based on world rankings as of Nov. 3, along with two sponsors’ exemptions and two qualifiers from Satellite Events.

If Casper and Pätz keep their positions within the top-12 rankings by the qualification deadline, then entries from the Stu Sells Oakville Tankard will be given to those highest-finishing teams that are not already ranked in that group.

The Henderson Metal Fall Classic running from Oct. 21-24 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, as well as the Swiss Chalet Women’s Curling Stadium Spiel happening Nov. 6-8 in North Bay, Ontario will fill in the remaining two Satellite Events slots for entry into GSOC Open.

Pätz Defeats Schwaller for Her Second Title

This early September might just be mid-season but there’s already a competitive edge forming between Pätz and Schwaller.

Their Swiss teams faced each other again for a second time this season’s tour finals, with Pätz coming out on top once more to claim another trophy.

Sweeping ahead only once at seventh end when she made a tap shot to gain two points after being down earlier at 4-5 was pivotal for Pätz’s win.

This gave Schwaller – who is also a reigning world champion – control with hammer going into final frame. She attempted a risky play with her last stone aiming to hit her own rock from up high but ended up missing it entirely; leaving Pätz’s rock safe enough to secure an extra point.

Pätz entered this week ranked No. 6 globally and has made a strong return to skipping after previously being vice-skip under Silvana Tirinzoni during eight seasons. Her Geneva-based team includes third Selina Witschonke, second Stefanie Berset and lead Renée Frigo; they recorded a solid 6-1 performance at Euro Super Series three weeks ago in Stirling, Scotland culminating in an impressive comeback victory over Schwaller with an scoreline of 8-5 during finals.

Pätz’s squad lost only one match throughout their time in Oakville – an initial round defeat against Team Kayla Skrlik by scores of 6-4 before reeling off five straight wins leading up to final round including overcoming Team Carly Howard during quarterfinals alongside fellow Swiss team Corrie Hürlimann earlier that same day.

Päzt isn’t alone either as Schwaller has had her fair share of success too – those defeats against Pütz remain her sole losses so far this year! After falling short again back at Stirling finale; Zurich club managed an undefeated streak going (7-0) through Hogged Rock KW Fall Classic last weekend hosted Waterloo Ontario where they added more victories beating both Team Giulia Zardini Lacedelli during quarterfinals along with Team Sherry Middaugh preceding final duel versus Päzt!

This upward movement sees Schwaller soaring rapidly into No.2 position amongst world rankings showcasing remarkable growth having been formidable since clinching gold medal back at World Juniors February last year! Following victory against Olympic silver medallists Team Tirinzoni within previous seasons’ Swiss championships led them onto incredible path through Women’s Worlds ultimately beating Canada’s very own Kerri Einarson squad claiming gold medal honors!

Päzt-who guided Switzerland towards Women’s Worlds title back again back here recently-is appearing quite dominant early on despite merely starting what appears likely leading up towards highly engaging rivalry unfolding across upcoming four years ahead!

A Season Debut Win for Casper

Danny Casper channeled his Olympic-level play when lifting his American team toward triumph late into championship match facing Mc Donald!

Sitting just one point clear without hammer remaining returning home; he executed stunning strike amidst chaotic house utilizing last throw pushing back duo rocks belonging Mc Donald while holding three stones total nearby!

This game-saving maneuver cornered Mc Donald into tight angle raise which unfortunately missed target allowing Casper seal steal putting three points safely away assuring him win overall securing prestigious tournament title !

It marked first event overall Chaska Minnesota based crew comprising Casper together along Luc Violette third Ben Richardson second Aidan Oldenburg since representing USA Olympics Winter Games Milano Cortina February past year.

Entering competition ranking No.7 globally ; he faced minor setback losing just one prior game initially arising versus Caden Hebert ’ s team whom pulled upset delivering unexpected result (8 -6). Rebounding swiftly winning rematch held afterward B qualifiers advancing playoff rounds where victories came then over John Shuster quarterfinal stage followed Brendan Bottcher semis en route championship showdown.

Mc Donald took down potential rubber match between himself & Hebert battling it out closely ; after obtaining qualification via C-side eliminating Marco Hösli quarterfinals ending matchup before facing off directly next round.

After struggling previously hitting playoffs during Hogged Rock KW Fall Classic Winnipeg foursome including Jacques Gauthier third Elias Huminicki lead Cameron Olafson made solid come-back week demonstrating resilience !
