A Peterborough man, aged 81, has been charged with second-degree murder related to the case of a missing Norland man from over two years ago.
According to the Ontario Provincial Police, Michael Walker, who is 58, was reported missing on January 7, 2024, after a family member grew worried when they couldn’t get in touch with him.
Authorities started a missing person investigation, but despite thorough searches and investigative efforts, Walker could not be found.
As the inquiry progressed, police gathered information that suggested his disappearance might involve foul play.
On Wednesday, Bazil Walker, 81, from Peterborough was charged with second-degree murder and indignity to a dead body.
The accused is currently in custody and is expected to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on Thursday, September 24.
Details about the connection between the two men have not been disclosed by the police nor have they confirmed if Michael Walker’s remains have been located.
The investigation is being carried out by the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP Crime Unit under the guidance of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch. They are receiving support from the Office of the Chief Coroner, Ontario Forensic Pathology Service, and OPP Forensic Identification Services.
