York Regional Police (YRP) report that two men and two 15-year-old boys have been charged in connection with a violent kidnapping involving a 24-year-old man from Vaughan, who was held for several days before being released in Toronto.
Authorities claim the incident started on Nov. 14 when the victim encountered several suspects in a parking lot near Jane Street and Highway 7. According to police, he was forced into a vehicle and taken away from the area, which led to an extensive investigation using significant resources.
The victim was finally released on Nov. 19 near Meadowvale Road and Sheppard Avenue in Scarborough. After sustaining minor injuries, he reached out for help from someone passing by and called the police.
On Dec. 3, officers executed search warrants at various locations in Toronto, resulting in four arrests. Two of those arrested were identified as Nathan Haskett, 18, and Shawn Dusome, 31, both from Toronto. The two 15-year-old males were also arrested but remain unnamed under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).
Police indicate that the accused are facing charges including kidnapping for ransom, forcible confinement, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, and arson.
Additively, Haskett is facing extra charges of assault with a weapon, robbery, and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The police believe there are more suspects involved in this kidnapping case who have not yet been caught. The investigation continues as officers aim to identify and locate these individuals.
