David passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on June 28, 2026.

He grew up in Guelph, Ontario, as the third child of Mario and Rita Finamore, both of whom have passed away. He is survived by an older brother, John (Mary); two older sisters, Dianne and Mary (who left us 19 years ago); and a younger brother, Paul (Lisa). They gave him some wonderful nieces and nephews: Joel, Jan, Jason, Danny (who tragically passed in 2017), Andrea, Juston, Dean, Sarah, and Paula. He will be fondly remembered by many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Almost 52 years ago, he met Sandy and they have been together ever since. They started their beautiful family in 1976 when they welcomed their first child, Jodie, in 1977. Jodie later blessed them with Grace. Maggie joined the family in 1983. After meeting Eric Rainville, Maggie proudly gave them Chloé, Amélie, Jacob, and Jeremi. Their only son, David Jr., came along in 1986; he found his love Kelly Mac Nutt who gifted them Charlee, Asher, and Maddie. Pamela completed the family as the youngest child in 1987. She married Pat Olmstead and brought Franky and Blake into the family mix. Along this journey of life, they also gained a Bonus Daughter named Erin (Evans) Sopher who added Koal, Lukaz, and Jaxxen to their group of grandchildren.

Jim and Nancy Carroll raised Sandy’s niece Tracie (Doug) Sheppard giving them three more kids to love: Colin (Tim), Nathan , and Emma (Ian). Sometimes you choose friends that feel like family too. David cherished everyone he collected along the way from London Cres., work colleagues , South Bay Park friends to childhood buddies as well as those from the AA/Al-Anon community.

In 1979 David moved his family to Elliot Lake where he worked hard as a miner for Denison Mines until a serious rock fall injury occurred in 1990 forced him to make a change; he went back to school to become an Addictions Counsellor at Camillus Centre where he served until 2020 when cancer was diagnosed.

In 1988 David decided it was time for a transformation not just for himself but for his family too by joining Alcoholics Anonymous where he remained sober since then. Through his work and involvement with AA , he positively impacted hundreds of lives across Canada and the States leaving behind so many friends who will deeply miss him.

While we all feel heartbroken over his passing , there’s comfort knowing that he no longer suffers having gone out on his own terms while being fully aware of what lay ahead. He has now reunited with his parents Mario & Rita ; his sister Mary; his favorite sister-in-law Cathy; his buddy Elijah Hennessey ; and grandson Landon.

We know flowers are often given as symbols of love but instead David preferred wildflowers grown outside which reminded him so much about life itself – so please don’t send any flowers but rather go pick some or enjoy smelling them on your own behalf. If you wish donate something meaningful then consider The Northern Cancer Centre or Elijah’s Legacy at St Joseph Hospital Foundation or Friends Of Bill by contributing towards keeping this legacy alive through GSO.

A true Leafs fan has now embarked on one final fishing adventure! We’ll forever treasure every memory along with this beautiful legacy that remains within us all – just like dad/grampa would do when sitting around sharing stories filled with advice such as “Be kind & always honest” during those special moments spent together with grandkids asking questions about life experiences!

No words can express our gratitude towards everyone who supported us throughout these last six years including medical staff involved especially during COVID times navigating challenges faced daily ; the amazing folks working tirelessly at Jim & Shirley Fielding Cancer Centre HSN; Dr Purzner plus FHT members ; alongside dedicated workers from Shoppers Drug Mart Pharmacy finally concluding gratitude extended toward palliative care team members Sam, Dana, Susan, Liz & Carla whose kindness shown was nothing short of extraordinary! Special thanks also go out Chaplain Ralph Regis providing spiritual guidance throughout !

The family will welcome friends & relatives at Elliot Lake Funeral Chapel And Cremation Centre Friday July Third between two-four pm seven-nine pm followed by funeral service held WH Collins Hall Saturday July Fourth twenty-six at eleven am. Burial ceremony shall take place Valley East Cemetery Hanmer Sunday July Fifth twenty-six @ eleven am – All are invited !

The arrangements were entrusted into capable hands Elliot Lake Funeral Chapel And Cremation Centre located thirty-six Ontario Avenue. Messages sent regarding condolences may be shared online via www. elliotlakefuneralchapel. com
