TORONTO (AP) – The Seattle Mariners have put right-hander Emerson Hancock on the 15-day injured list as of Sunday, backdated to August 29, due to a strained left adductor.
Hancock pitched in Friday’s loss against Toronto and got hurt in the first inning when he slid to field Nathan Lukes’ ground ball and reached out to tag the jumping Blue Jays outfielder.
He continued in the game and gave up eight hits over five innings, including two home runs.
This season, Hancock holds a record of 7-8 with a 3.57 ERA across 25 starts.
Manager Dan Wilson mentioned that right-hander Bryce Miller, who has allowed 21 runs and five home runs in four appearances this August, might take the mound when it’s Hancock’s turn in the rotation at Boston on Wednesday.
Right-hander Nick Davila was called up from Triple-A Tacoma and gave up three runs in one inning during Sunday’s 7-0 defeat to the Blue Jays, marking Seattle’s fourth consecutive loss.
